If you haven't read the post, feel free to do so for context, thanks!

So five months later, a lot of things have changed:
I was let go from my workplace in a cost-cutting exercise,
and in case you haven't noticed, there is also a sweeping pandemic
so my country, like many others, are in a lockdown of some sort.
Hope this post finds everyone safe and healthy in their homes.
And for those who are working at the frontlines fighting the disease,
I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your service.

World news aside, let's look at all of the comments from that post,
and I will address them one by one,
or collectively, if they are referring to the same thing.

sideswipeBL: Holy shit, posted the same day I thought of revisiting PMG to see if there had been any noise since 2011.
SL: There's no direct noise from PMG per se, but with the revival I hope to continue the spirit of mashing gun parts together building fictional and real guns.

Cody Grant: We are here Skipper! Tell us what we need to do.
SL: Thank you for your support, Cody! I'm not sure what to do at this junction, there's more questions than answers in my head for now, I will be listing some of them after this Q&A.

Drio: What happened to Dr. Noob ?
SL: I actually have no idea. I wish I knew though.

Unknown: I love Pimp My Gun and I still playing! I'm making AN-94 without any raster graphics editor. I heard Adobe Flash will end in 2020. I want to play Pimp My Gun after 2020. I'm looking forward to good news!
SL: Glad to hear you're still on PMG! I just checked that support for Flash will end on 31 December 2020. I don't know how to back up PMG offline, though. I hope someone reading this can help make sense of the source code on the website and find a way to download the files to work offline.

Daniel: Please keep it alive. It is such an amazing app!
SL: That is my point of a PMG revival, but looking at my current skill set and interests, what I have in mind might not be 100% the same as the PMG we currently have.

JDS: Is it possible to patch PMG for HMTL5? I ask because I really enjoy playing PMG and fear that, I never get to do that, now that Flash Player will no longer be supported after the end of 2020. I want it to continue after 2020.
SL: I sure hope that is possible, but I cannot do it as the source files, app, website, and server hosting are all owned by, and can only be accessed by Doctor Noob.

VVaypoint: Every now and then I kept giving myself false hope PMG would be revived... Hearing this, well I am excited but pray you keep this commitment going. PMG is a home for a very select type of people and I don't know where else we'd go.
-DarkDeagle
SL: Thank you for sharing your excitement with me. PMG has a special place in my heart as well, while I might not be able to recreate this amazing app Doctor Noob has built, I hope the revival can be something different to look forward to.

Unknown: im so glad i found this, i would very much like to get in contact with you about this skipper, i used PMG a very very very long time ago and finally gave up in 2016 of seeing an update but just for old times sake i found this and i mean. damn. im really intrested in helping reviving the project, im on discord, Viktoria#5499
SL: Thanks, I'll sort some things out and hop on Discord soon!

DESERTFOX1991: Cant wait to see whats next! just revisited PMG and its still awesome but and update would be amazing to see.
SL: Its awesomeness, and what you can do with it, is timeless! But then, an update to the original PMG can only be uploaded by Doctor Noob, as he is the only one with access to the source code, files and servers.

Unknown: Still here... waiting patiently
An Awnry Moose: Revisited again today when I had a little time to mess around with it, decided to click the link to your blog and saw this. Take your time! We're still here.
SL: Thank you for your support and patience. Glad you're all still here!

wanglydanglus: I have thought PMG was long gone for a while now. Just out there haunting a server somewhere. This is amazing! I'd Patreon a PMG revival, and I dont Patreon anything!
One Other Person: I certainly wouldn't mind giving a buck or two a month for a revived Pimp My Gun. Seeing as Flash is going the way of the Dodo, perhaps other options could be considered.
SL: Thanks for your support, I am definitely considering starting a Patreon for this. I currently have one for my gun doodles, but things are not going as well as I desired. But yeah, if there's enough support I can definitely work on this project full-time!

Archkyrie: This would be incredible!
We are still here, the old PMG community. I speak for at least the Flickr group. It is smaller, and slower, than it once was, but it is still here. Those of us still into it are pretty dedicated. A lot of the older community, the ones who have moved on or gotten busy, still hang out on a Discord together (I found this post through there, someone linked it). I get the feeling several of the guys would be totally interested in coming back if there was an update. Those of us who currently still play use downloaded swf files because the website app because too unstable.
But if you were to carry out this Revival project, there are a lot of us who would be interested. If you need any help, it may be good to reach out to the Discord community. There are a few guys there with skillsets that may be able to help. You can find the link to the Discord posted in the PMG Flickr group (which I think is still linked to on the old PMG website?).
SL: Glad everyone is still doing okay, and at the time of this writing I managed to log back onto my Flickr account and hopped on the Discord server. Looking forward to hearing from everyone there about the revival!

Unknown: I found the pimp site a couple days ago, is this the old internet?
SL: PMG was last updated 27 September 2011. You could say it's a pretty old website. And since support for Flash (which the app was built) is ending 31 December 2020, I wanted to build something that carries this on. A revival.

I guess that's all the comments for now, I'll be collecting my thoughts about the revival project and post up another entry soon-ish. Hopefully.Skipper Lee Yin Pinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02169981109758545705noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2758977916134785039.post-92012413436601745162019-11-10T22:29:00.001+08:002019-11-10T22:44:23.760+08:00Ten Years AgoHello Internet, it's been quite awhile since my last post here on SF Battlenet.

If anyone is still here reading this, I'd like to take a walk down memory lane,

and share what I have in mind for the future moving forward.

Ten years ago, I stumbled upon the masterpiece forever a work-in-progress that is Pimp My Gun by Doctor Noob. Out of curiosity I reached out to him about drawing some stuff for the app. Using what I had back then, a cheapo laptop computer, I did the line art for the CheyTac M200, the Bushmaster ACR, and the FN F2000, which all made it into the app.

Throughout the journey I was only drawing line art for the app. Doctor Noob was in charge of colouring the line art, importing the guns, coding and hosting the app online.

The app was last updated September 17, 2011 as v0.7.0.6 - I have received a few messages from fellow Pimp My Gun fans that they're still waiting for the next update, as I am too.

Last week I've been thinking about Pimp My Gun again, and what else I can do besides just waiting for a miracle. And then it dawned on me.

A REVIVAL.

Pimp My Gun needs to be given a new breath of life, so I looked up the Internet and my previous correspondences about the possibility of such a thing.

True enough there was one (so far, either that or I'm not looking hard enough) called the PSGunlabProject (link to their DeviantArt profile) but their last image post was October 29, 2012 while their last journal post was May 26, 2014 (they were still looking for programmers). What they were trying to do was to build a database of parts that can be opened and manipulated in Photoshop. They did a lot of amazing things but my only concern was 1. not everyone has Photoshop and 2. raster images made of pixels cannot be scaled up indefinitely, not like what PMG can do with scalable vector graphics.

So this is me committing to the next Pimp My Gun revival. There's a lot on my mind right now (mostly questions) but I am sure that with time and effort, there will be progress.

If anyone's still reading, I'll try to gather all the questions I have and post them up next as a follow-up to this. So stick around and see y'all soon.

That's right, I'm packing all that heat in just my wallet alone!
These guns are those in my soldiers' inventories.
See if you can name each and every one of them!

Oh, and wish me luck!
I'm playing it on my Nokia N9 right now.

I've heard a lot of chatter about making Pimp My Gun available for mobile devices.
At first when I asked Doc about it, seems like porting PMG to mobile platforms
is going to be a lot of hard work, indeed.

I think we have something promising here.
As I have Mozilla's Firefox for mobile devices Aurora installed
on my Meego-powered Nokia N9, I was curious to see Adobe's Flash player
available on the N9's Nokia Store.

I downloaded the player, which works with Mozilla's browser,
so I tried it out on Pimp My Gun.

Sure enough, it works, although with certain disabilities.
One of it was the inability to input text, which will be troublesome
for those who frequently scale, rotate and custom-colour their parts.

Here's a screengrab from my Nokia N9,
featuring Pimp My Gun in Flash player's fullscreen mode.

I'll try to record a video of PMG running on my phone,
if anyone's interested in a more informative follow-up post.

While I have not been drawing any line art for PMG at all,
I have been looking around for a nice mil-sim paintball marker.
Here are a few things to add to your to-do list...

1. Visit the website daily - it's the least everyone can do ;-)

2. Click on the ads - once a day is enough :-D

3. Scout your bookshelves, your local library and the Internet
for firearm references :-)

4. Take photographs of your firearm, if you have one :-P

Please note that checklist items #3 and #4 are dependent on my current work.
...and when you do have reference material, kindly comment on this post,
with a working link that leads to your contribution.

For now, I am still drawing the French FA MAS assault rifle.Progress is slow but sure - I'm hoping to get it done in these two weeks.

I certainly look forward to everyone's response! :-)
asking me to 'draw more weapons' and 'update PMG with new parts'.

And frankly, I am quite annoyed by the latter.
So I've come up with a Q&A list of things you should know,
as a PMG user.

I have composed this list of Q&A in third-person perspective,
so that it appears that I am professional enough to have an agent
managing my blog and PR.

...okay jokes aside, let's bring it on.

command: /on pr_agent

Q: Who is Skipper Lee?
A: An artist for PMG.

Q: Can I ask him to update PMG?
A: No.

Q: Why?
A: Because he is only an artist and does not have
control over the contents in the app.

Q: Why?
A: Because Doctor Noob has all the skills required to
maintain the app, while Skipper Lee knows nothing of
Flash programming... for now.

Q: But can I ask him to draw more weapons and parts?
A: Yes, but it really depends on the situation.

Q: What situation?
A: His current drawing task and the
frequency of his college assignments.
Not to mention his personal interests as well.

Q: If he accepts the request, what to do next?
A: Two words - 'Wait'. 'Patiently'.
"Ask, and ye shall receive."
"Good things come to those who wait."
...and he really want to emphasise on that.

Q: I want to help contribute to PMG, what can I do to help?
A: For the moment, everyone can help gather reference images
for Skipper Lee on his current drawing task in the form of
photographs showing the stripped weapon, its manuals
and side views of the weapon and parts as well.

Q: Can I do anything else?
A: In fact, yes.

Q: What else?
A: You can draw your own weapon line art and let Skipper know that
you are doing it, so that the both of you can help each other out.

Q: I am running out of questions, what to do now?
A: Fret not, take your time and think about more questions.
Then post your question as a comment to this post.
Skipper will try his best to provide an answer,
and his 'agent' will update this post with your new questions.

Q: How do I know it's updated with new Q&A?
A: Pay attention to the version number in the post title,
it will let you know if it has been updated, or not.

Q: This is a wall of text, can I stop reading now?
A: Skipper never made it an imperative to read the entire Q&A.
It is entirely down to the readers' discretion to do so.
No pressure on you, please.

{ABA} Worlock asks:

Q: What is his preferred method of receiving reference material?
A: Skipper usually prefers links to them,
commented in the respective weapon update posts.
However, one should always use bit.ly to shorten the links.

{ABA} Worlock asks:

Q: Which weapons does Skipper prefers:
Modern/Vintage? Pistols/Rifles?
A: Skipper has not been thinking about it recently,
but since you have asked this question,
he has decided to give a real answer.
"I like firearms that both feature prominent
aesthetics and functionality,
so usually I prefer modern, modular weapons."
The following answer from Skipper does not
endorse 'tacticool-ness', as it is functionality overkill,
and a disgrace to firearm design aesthetics.

Marshall asks:

Q: What does Skipper Lee use for the graphics?
A: All the while, Skipper has been drawing line art on
Adobe Illustrator. After a recent update from Doctor Noob,
he will be picking up Adobe Flash as a more direct
drawing method for the Pimp My Gun
'Mods' feature.

Ferrariguy asks:

Q: What's with the 'Twitter API' popup everytime I visit the site?
A: It's a login popup for those who have Twitter.
Don't worry, it's nothing malicious.
...if it's too much trouble for any of you,
let Skipper know by commenting on this post,
and he'll remove the box.

Spyder asks:

Q: Skipper, do you need books on modern Russian firearms?
A: There's not really an answer to that,
as most resources can be found on the Internet.
However, should Skipper find himself lacking resources,
be ready to offer a helping hand.

Skipper looks forward to answering questions from
the eager PMG community, so...

Until next time,
Everyone will get the chance to draw their own PMG parts!

...can't wait to find out more?

It has been discussed on Flickr for quite some time,
about a PMG reboot.

Since everyone lacks the calibre of Doctor Noob himself,
he offered to work on the mother of all updates - custom modding.

With this feature, PMG will be able to read custom parts
on a Shockwave Flash (SWF) file, giving everyone the ability to draw
and use their own PMG parts.
In light of this possibility, I decided to start taking commission for custom weapon designs.

Sure, they do not have the professional colour and shading work as PMG's yet,
but there are a lot of weapons and parts stashed in my computer's hard drives,
and chances are, they won't make it into PMG.

So this is what you can get, with a price starting from 5.00 USD per weapon.
The price varies with the weapon's design complexity and its reference resource availability.
So, those who do their homework and compile design references gets a 20% discount!

Upon completion of the commission, my clients will get the following package:

a scalable vector PDF export of the weapon,

a Photoshop file containing layers of the weapon's individual parts,

a JPEG image of all the weapon's individual parts (for those without Photoshop),

...and a Skipper Lee Certificate of Authenticity, just for the fun of it.

Don't worry, I will be making more examples soon,
and at the same time hone my vector colouring and shading skills.
